Initial discussions about TIP QA/QC view

  • Response: There really is no standardized QA/QC process during a SEDAR data extraction....As far as length data, I have excluded outliers only if I was using inherited extraction code from Dave Gloeckner. In these cases, Dave used max lengths usually as given in fishbase.org, and mins based on commercial minimum sizes (if any) and deleted any lengths above max and below min. I also seem to remember one of his codes that excluded lengths if they were +- more than 3 standard deviations away from the mean. For SEDARs conducted by FWC, I don't filter any lengths from the data sets I give them.

For the view, we will want to make a series of flags to use when excluding the data and summarize data removed within the application

As a series of flags, we could have one column be specific to certain species (code Larry sent) and then another using the +/- 3 SD and then we can compare outliers removed for overlapping species between methods. This will help us decide if a generalized method like +/- 3 SD is sufficient if the results are the same.
