Hi @yixianUvA,

Hereby I hand in the draft version of the thesis: Download Draft Version.

I am looking forward to hearing your feedback, so that I can make any changes that may be necessary before the final deadline on the 30th of June. Additionally, as per Lester's words: "Be sure to send the draft version to your supervisor as well, so that they can give you feedback and a go to hand in the final thesis", could you also kindly let me know if the thesis is eligible to be handed in for the final deadline (after the necessary changes have been made)?

Looking forward to your response,

Thank you, Sascha

Hi, Sascha, your thesis "AccessiPub: Automating EPUB Accessibility" represents a significant advancement in digital accessibility. By developing AccessiPub, you address a critical gap in automating EPUB accessibility improvements. Your methodology is both thorough and innovative. Here are some comments for you.

HTML refactoring offers numerous advantages. It enhances accessibility by ensuring compliance with established standards, improves the readability and maintainability of code, boosts performance, and increases compatibility across various devices and assistive technologies. However, implementing HTML refactoring introduces additional processing steps, which result in some computational overhead. This overhead includes the time required for error detection, content parsing, and the reassembly of EPUB files. What is the overhead of this process?

Please add the explanation of the error classification criteria in Table 1?

Your intervention with AccessiPub is particularly effective for serious errors, likely due to its focused targeting and comprehensive approach. By specifically addressing the most impactful accessibility issues, such as missing page breaks in navigation and indistinguishable links, AccessiPub ensures significant barriers are removed. The use of precise tools like BS4 and RegEx allows for accurate identification and correction of errors without compromising the document's integrity. Additionally, by combining multiple steps—disassembly, error correction, and reassembly—AccessiPub thoroughly handles these issues. Please provide an analysis of why AccessiPub intervention works best for serious errors and identify any patterns or insights that might explain these benefits.

Please analyze why errors increase after AccessiPub intervention. The increase in certain errors can be attributed to the limitations of the tools used, particularly EbookLib, which sometimes fails to preserve all metadata and structure during reassembly. Additionally, some accessibility metadata were not adequately preserved or generated during the process.

Hi @yixianUvA,

Thank you for providing your feedback! Apologies for the delayed response here.

After I finish incorporating the feedback into my thesis, can I hand in the final version in Datanose? According to the rules and guidelines, I need explicit approval from this, so I would love to know.

Looking forward to your response.

Hi Sascha, Thank you for your message. Yes, you can submit the final version of your thesis through Datanose once you've incorporated the feedback. Just make sure everything aligns with the submission guidelines. Looking forward to seeing your completed work. Best regards, Yixian
