Hi,

So how is the tint2 project doing? I really love tint2 and I hope this project
is going to continue on and I see that there has not been a stable update in
almost 2 years, kind of sad... :(

So are we going to see any new stable updates?

THANKS

Good question.

Before building a release, we have to clarify the state of tint2conf and
tintwizard :
- tint2conf can switch theme but can't replace tintwizard
- tintwizard doesn't support new config option

I suggest to remove tintwizard, made some cleanup and release a new version.
The discussion is open...

Currently, tint2conf misses the following controls/options:
- Background and border settings (empty tab in UI)
- Saving ("Saving not yet supported!" dialog box)
- Normal/Active/Urgent/Iconified task settings
- Launcher Settings
Some of these options are available in tintwizard.

There are also bugs in the issue tracker that seem easy to fix (some patches
attached):
https://code.google.com/p/tint2/issues/detail?id=369
https://code.google.com/p/tint2/issues/detail?id=375
https://code.google.com/p/tint2/issues/detail?id=389 (perhaps less easy)
https://code.google.com/p/tint2/issues/detail?id=235

These features/corrections would be nice in a future release. Most of other
requested features can be obtained through other nice apps: gsimplecal,
volumeicon, volti, neap, xdotool... The only major remaining "problem" seems to
be about garbled systray icons (personnally i only have it with
mail-notification, not so bad).

Also, the bug tracker needs a bit of cleanup ;)

Thanks for all your work on tint2

Well to be honest, from SVN from a year ago I grabbed on 02/03/2011 has been
working great, I've never had any problems.

I really love it, OpenBox is all I use...

So the least I can do from a fan is to say THANKS and show you my pride and joy;

Tintwizard is no longer available for my distribution--Ubuntu, theming could be
done by the window manager by default or by editing the configuration until
that is fixed, anyone using old configurations can simply run tint2conf and
apply their current settings or by copying and pasting the values from the old
configuration.

So many panel projects out there are either dormant or dead. This one is
written with Openbox in mind, does not depend upon files from other desktops
like Gnome, and it has a small footprint.

I'm personally experimenting to find a desktop with all the necessary functions
while using the smallest computer resource footprint. This appears to be it,
but it needs to be functional. Why offer a configuration program that does
nothing except say,"saving not supported yet."

I say that whoever even bothers to respond to this wiki should simply make the
decision and fully replace tintwizard with a fully functional tint2conf.

Hi Thomas,

It look like current members of the project doesn't have time (since june 2010).

But this is open source !
Everybody can contribute if he want something to be done.

Regards,
Thierry

Hi all, I'm worried too about the lack of activity in the project. I share your
views on the development of tint2conf/tintwizard but have not much coding
skills to offer. Meanwhile, the bug tracked is becoming a mess with many
outdated/incomplete/unanswered bug reports, questions and requests. I'm
offering my help to triage the bugs here, ask reporters for more info if
needed, look for abandoned reports and close them if necessary. I have some
experience in triaging bugs, so if a project maintainer is interested, please
let me know by mail.

thanks to you all for making tint2 still relevant in 2013

I've been looking around and see too this project seems dead, how sad.

Let's be honest here there isn't much to replace Tint2 for a decent taskbar for
smaller Window Managers.

It's so sad to see so many projects in Linux come and go and die, I truly hope
this is not the case, but it certainly looks like it.

I'm sure there are bugs in this code that could be improved when you see all
the issues submitted.

Where are the people to keep this project alive?

Please don't let this die!

thank you...
