My use case: While I am sleeping, people post lots of messages in chatrooms, which I need to read and reply to when I wake up. It is useful to be able to scroll up, read a message, reply to and send it, and then keep reading from that place without the timeline resetting. I do not want the timeline to reset, because this way, I can keep track of what I've already seen.
If other people want the timeline to reset to the bottom when sending a message (I don't see why, but each to their own) then there should be an option for this behaviour.
