Missing Movies #512

I just noticed that after synchronising, some movies do not appear. What is
wrong?
I'm using the version 1235.

Hi benchikhnabil,

please provide a log file of your last synchronisation run since otherwise it's
hard to find out, what went wrong.

Please consider additionally that it's normal that not all movies can be
detected correctly, since for example in case of "Remakes" PVMC don't know,
which is the correct movie that you have stored on your box. In order to learn
more about the sync process and how it works, please see the corrresponding
Wiki article, where we tried to describe that stuff a little bit more detailed:

http://code.google.com/p/project-valerie/wiki/FAQ?wl=en#How_is_the_synchronizati
on_working_in_detail?

Now in order to fix wrong detected movies / TV shows there are several ways to
get the "correct" videos displayed in PVMC. These options are described more
detailed here:

http://code.google.com/p/project-valerie/wiki/Sync?wl=en#Excludes_and_search_hin
ts

Anyhow: in order to check what went wrong in your case, please provide a log
and make sure that the debug mode is set to "high" as described here:

Hi again,

thanks for the log. Could you please be so kind as to give me the name of some
files, that fail to get synced correctly? I just started to review the log and
with 74 files it would take quite some time to get through it.

For now I found for example a problem with "Insight". This is caused by the
fact, that there are multiple videos with different release years and IMDb-ID
found for that name:

    Insight:1997:tt0219830:False
    InSight:2011:tt1687277:False
    Insight:2007:tt1548998:False
    Insight:2001:tt0383413:False
    Insight:2006:tt1412456:False
    Insight:2007:tt1642239:False
    Insight:2009:tt1533047:False
    Insight:2009:tt1540947:False
    InSight:2010:tt1636495:False
    InSight:2010:tt1980989:False
    Insight:2011:tt2087815:False

=> which one is the one you have on your disk? If it is the second one listed
above (from 2011):

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1687277/

you can for example just add the correct year to the filename and then this
movie should get synced correctly:

    Insight_(2011).avi

Alternatively you can add the IMDb-ID to the filename like this:

    Insight_tt1687277.avi

and then the movie should also get synced.

Once again: please provide the remaining videos that cause problems so I can
check the log and see what's going wrong there...

Thanks & Cheers, Erik

Hi and thanks for the quick response!

I just evaluated your log according to your mentioned videos, but before you
start reading the log evaluation results listed below, please be sure to have
read the basics of the synchronization process, since I refer to "IMDb-ID", the
online databases "TheMovieDB" and "IMDb" where PVMC retrieves Title, Plot and
graphics and so on for your videos.
Most of your problems are somehow related to the fact, that we find multiple
movies for your videos and possible select the wrong one - or a movie is
missing in TheMovieDB. So the easiest way to fix things is simply by giving
PVMC some hints, which movie you exactly have in your collection, but to do so,
you need to know what an IMDb-ID is - and of course how you can specify it so
PVMC can use it.

The English version of the synchronization basics is not yet finished, but we
have a short summary in the FAQ:

    http://code.google.com/p/project-valerie/wiki/FAQ?wl=en#Synchronization

The chapter concerning how to specify search hints was already linked in one of
my previous posts, but just to be sure:

    http://code.google.com/p/project-valerie/wiki/Sync?wl=en#Excludes_and_search_hints

So here are the result:

Shark Night:
=============
We get two results from IMDb.com - one from 2010 and one from 2011:

Shark Night :2010:tt1867055:False
Shark Night 3D:2011:tt1633356:False

and PVMC uses the first entry, since no year has been specified in the file
name. Unfortunately this one is not contained in the TheMovieDB.
So once again two options to fix this:

1) rename Shark Night.avi to Shark Night (2011).avi
2) rename Shark Night.avi to Shark Night_tt1633356.avi

The Open Door:
===============
We get 11 results for "The Open Door" with years ranging from 1913 - 2011.
Since neither year nor IMDb-ID is specified PVMC takes the first result from
1964, which is not available in TheMovieDB.
Since me, too doesn't know, which movie from which year you have on your disk,
you should adapt the file name as previously shown and add either IMDb-ID or
year in order to give PVMC a hint what you're after.

For your convenience please find below the results from our IMDb-search:

    The Open Door:1964:tt0372777:False
    The Open Door:2008:tt1308660:False
    The Open Door:1913:tt1221928:False
    The Open Door:1913:tt0253414:False
    The Open Door:1913:tt0867389:False
    The Open Door:1914:tt2137382:False
    The Open Door:1915:tt0855923:False
    The Open Door:1919:tt0010531:False
    The Open Door:1939:tt0427612:False
    The Open Door:2009:tt1482942:False
    The Open Door:2011:tt1865526:False

Bonne chance Charlie:
======================
Our search query at IMDb gets the following results:

    Good Luck, Charlie:1962:tt0136737:False
    Lucky Number Slevin:2006:tt0425210:False
    Good Night, and Good Luck.:2005:tt0433383:False
    Mr. Lucky:1959:tt0052494:True
    Good Luck:1935:tt0143147:False

Since neither year nor IMDb-ID is specified, we take the first entry with Eddie
Constantine and Albert Préjean. The related IMDb-ID is tt0136737:

http://www.imdb.de/title/tt0136737/

Unfortunately this movie is not yet contained in the TheMovieDB, where we take
our Title, Poster and Plots from. This is the reason, why we have to skip this
entry.

In order to fix this, you might want to create a free account at TheMovieDB.org
and simply add this movie to that database.

But perhaps your movie is a different one? If so, then you should try to find
the correct movie at IMDb.com in order to get the related IMDb-ID and just put
that one to the file name as shown by the other two samples above.

Paire de rois:
===============
This seems to be a self-recorded TV show. In this case PVMC tries to evaluate a
file created by Enigma2 in order to get the name of the aired episode. This
file is filled with information from the Electronic Program Guide, which itself
is maintained by the TV stations.
Now in your case Disney XD didn't aired the name of the episodes - and hence
PVMC has no chance of detecting, which episodes you did record. Without that
information we can not load title, plot etc.

Here's where things start to go wrong:

07:21:23.0647672 I  MediaInfo::getEnigma2RecordingName MovieName = 'Paire de
rois' - EpisodeName = ''

As can be seen we do get the TV show name - but the episode name is empty... :-(

=> there's nothing we can do about that - except you search for yourself, which
episode has been aired on March, 19th and rename your files accordingly, for
example:

   Paire_de_rois_s01e02.ts

for the second episode of the first season.

Zeke et Luther:
================
And finally the exactly the same problem with your Show "Zeke et Luther" - the
TV Station just didn't transmit the name of the episodes - and thus PVMC
doesn't know, which episodes have been aired:

    07:14:50.0386743 I  MediaInfo::getEnigma2RecordingName MovieName = 'Zeke et Luther' - EpisodeName = ''

To sum things up:
Some of your missing movies should be syncable, if you give PVMC a hint, which
movie exactly you have - the rest should be syncable if you add the missing
movies to TheMovieDB.org.
For the TV shows it doesn't look very well, since without the knowledge of
which episodes you have recorded PVMC can NOT sync those episodes...

So in the end this is no "defect" - at least I couldn't find any indication,
that there's a coding problem, so I change the type of this issue to "Question"
since this issue deals more about the question on how to add synchronisation
hints in order to get everything synced correctly...
