KernelError: passing and using non-bitstype argument #390

Hi! I'm not sure if this issue is, in essence, the same as this one: https://github.com/SciML/DiffEqFlux.jl/issues/378

I previously opened an issue at CUDA.jl https://github.com/JuliaGPU/CUDA.jl/issues/372 but it seems the issue is being generated at some point in DiffEqFlux.

The problem is I'm not broadcasting properly, as was pointed out by @maleadt (Thank you).

In what follows, I'll explain what I'm doing and show the stack trace. Thank you.

I'm training a matrix of parameters p by using a MSE.

The values of the elements in pinit are in (0.0,1.0]

The error is raised with: DiffEqFlux.sciml_train(loss, pinit, ADAM(0.1), maxiters=10) where: function loss(p) tmp_prob = remake(prob, p=p) tmp_sol = solve(tmp_prob,ROCK2(), save_everystep=false,save_start=false) ϵ = CuArray(reshape(tmp_sol[:,:,end],:)) sum(abs2, ϵ) end (the function loss(p) does not generate any error).

The stack trace I'm getting is:

What's the code like? How come it's trying to broadcast a CPU array? Without seeing the example I can't really help.

What happens if you remove CuArrays?

CuArrays and CUDAnative are probably putting an upper bound on Adapt.jl, and so you might need to remove them to get the latest Flux, Zygote, and CUDA versions.

Yeah, I ended up removing all my Pkg's and doing a clean ] add.

So I ran the code you posted earlier but I'm still an error slightly different though:

Note with that the script I posted earlier I mentioned that you need https://github.com/SciML/DiffEqSensitivity.jl/pull/326 because of a bug in the loss function. I'll probably get that patch merged tonight. The workaround is just

Yeah, I took the script you posted earlier and executed it in a new and fresh session and got that stack trace posted two comments above.

Indeed your proposal changes Array{Float32,1} to Array{CuArray{Float32,2},1}

The patch is now released, so that code will work if you have up to date packages.
