Citation github <-> Zenodo mismatch #6000

🐛 Bug Report

When looking to cite iris, there is a mismatch between what is available to cite via Zenodo (which is ultimately where the iris DOI resolves to) and the latest version(s) available on github.

Zenodo citation currently has up to 3.7.0.

Practically speaking the github citation file which provides

Iris contributors. Iris [Computer software]. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.595182

doesn't seem to parse well with journals, which retrieve and resolve the provided DOI information and ends up with

Hattersley, R., Little, B., Peglar, P., Elson, P., Campbell, E., Killick, P., Blay, B., De Andrade, E. S., Lbdreyer, Dawson, A., Yeo, M., Comer, R., Bosley, C., Kirkham, D., Tkknight, Stephenworsley, Benfold, W., Kwilliams-Mo, Tv3141, … Penn, J. (2023). SciTools/iris: v3.7.0 (Version v3.7.0) [Computer software]. Zenodo. https://doi.org/10.5281/ZENODO.595182

At the very least the citation file needs to update to reflect which version on the software it relates to.

@hsteptoe Thanks.

Yes, you're right. We noticed that the zenodo app was accidentally/temporarily disabled, and as a result missed a few releases of iris.

We need to figure out whether we can retro update zenodo to give full coverage of DOIs :+1:
