Hello!
There are at least 3 new papers for the Midwest Agriculture Reviews! This alert is counting papers from 2019-10-14 to 2019-10-16.
Thanks for putting up with those message -- I think the testing is done for now.
This is now scheduled to run at the first of every month, and will update this issue if it finds 20+ papers. Once this happens, then you guys will have to manually run the queries through Web Of Science to get bib files, same as you were doing before.
One potential challenge on your guys' end might be that Web of Science (as far as I know) doesn't have a way to do granular searches for dates. I think the only options within a year are "Current week, past 2 weeks, past 4 weeks, year to date". This means that even if the alert comes in 2 months, you'll have to run the query for the full year.
I think you might be able to use the "unique paper" feature Lesley found in Colandr to solve this problem, but I'm also having the bot push the new papers for each month to the repo (saved as wos_query_between_*
)
The bot also pushes the full API result (wos_query_*
), but that's there primarily as a sanity check.
Let me know if there's anything else you would like added to the alert!
Hello!

@nathanhwangbo on the automated email it lists the management terms used for the search. We’re geographical search terms included as well?
how difficult would it be for the email to include a link to WoS searches with these terms where I could go and not have to re-enter all the search terms?
Yes, they do include geographical search terms. They'll be added to future alerts, but until then, here are the queries that we add for all of the practices:
'Illinois OR Indiana OR Iowa OR Kansas OR Michigan OR Minnesota OR Missouri OR "North Dakota" OR "South Dakota" OR Nebraska OR Ohio OR Wisconsin OR ((Midwest AND U.S.) OR (Midwest AND US) OR (Midwest* AND "United States"))'
'corn OR maize OR soybean OR "Zea mays" OR "Glycine max" OR agricultur OR agro-ecosystem OR agroecosystem OR crop OR "field crop" OR "cropping system" OR farm OR "conservation agricult"'
As far as getting a link to WoS goes, I'm not very optimistic. As far as I know, there isn't a way to do this through the API. I'll look into it and let you know. Maybe they build their webpage links in some systematic way we can use
just a note on this: Nathan is referring to the free WoS API we can access through this package. I know that some institutions have access to the full API (giving access to abstracts, keywords, ...). Maybe worth asking Yale's Library if they have an arrangement.
Hi Nathan-
In the WoS web portal I can’t set a custom search to specific dates that correspond with these emails. Could you set this up to ping me every 4 weeks regardless of the number of citations?
Thanks! Steve

Done! This bot will now post here at the first of every month, regardless of how many papers it finds.
Sorry I wasn't able to get this up before the new year. Here are the papers the bot picked up from December 1-> January 1 (there's only 16 of them, so an alert wasn't sent out): https://github.com/Science-for-Nature-and-People/Midwest-Agriculture-Synthesis/blob/master/auto_pubsearch/wos_new_refs/wos_query_between_20191201_20200101.csv

Sorry in advance if you get a bunch of emails while I try to bug fix the bot over the next couple days!
