I am not sure how to add the data format examples. For example, for a shapefile I put an image showing the names of all the associated files?
Yes, that's a pretty good question. I gather all the files in a shapefile are binary-encoded, so we can't meaningfully show the lines of any of the files. It would be nice to have a visual representations of the collection of files that constitute a single "shapefile" (the terminology is misleading in that a "shapefile" seems to need several files).
The image below is extracted from GISGeography. I find this image a little confusing; it still doesn't clarify for me what a "shapefile" actually is. If you can find an example of a small, single "shapefile" — with the appropriate bundle of mandatory files & perhaps some optional files — and screenshot an image like the one above, that, I think, would do the job.
