DRM protected video streaming issue in chromium browsers #5742

Open Steuls opened 3 years ago

Steuls commented 3 years ago

I have tried opera, opera GX and Brave installs with scoop and each has shown an issue where it cannot stream DRM protected videos on Netflix, amazon etc. Uninstall and reinstalls with a clean do not fix it and all the mentioned browsers work fine when installed normally.

This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has not had recent activity. It will be closed if no further activity occurs. Thank you for your contributions.

Issue might be related to Widevine Content Decryption Module but I haven't been able to make sure.

Bibz87 commented 2 years ago

Might not be Widevine CDM after all, as I've been able to play all Widevine DRM videos in Shaka Player demo: https://shaka-player-demo.appspot.com/demo/

Still investigating.

Same issue with Audible. The POST Request for the DRM license returns an error with the reason Widevine license denied due to: VMP_VALIDATION_FAILED. Strangely other Widevine DRM tests such as Shaka Player seem to work fine.

Howdy there, not OP but spent a while looking into this and found several workarounds. Rabbit hole begins over on https://github.com/ScoopInstaller/Versions/issues/738#issuecomment-1298806335.

Would like to take further steps towards a bonafide solution but could use advice from other devs.
