Any and all videos keep stuttering and pausing repeatedly. #40

I use Scorpio player every day on Xbox One to watch and listen to the news shows I record. Today, for no reason (I did nothing different), I noticed the news I was listening to was stuttering and was harder to understand voices. I saw that the pause/play button on the main hub was repeatedly pausing and playing (I'll provide a video of the issue). I tried different videos on Scorpio, same thing. I tried Scorpio and Scorpio X, same thing. I tried restarting the Xbox (hard restart), same problem. I tried reinstalling both Scorpio Player and Scorpio X, same problem. I tried disconnecting all controllers, still same problem. I tried the videos with another video player on my PC and on my Xbox (Files&Folders Lite) and the videos worked fine as normal, so the problem is only with Scorpio and Scorpio X.

video I made of the issue, I point at the pause/play button (but no sound to hear the stuttering, unfortunately)

Is the file playing through the network? If so, which protocol are you using? Try playing the file from the local file system instead.

I saw the video you provided. Did you change the playback rate to 2X? Does it stutter at 1X as well?

Things to try:

No I wasn't playing through a network. I was running a file off of an HDD like I always have for years now without this issue.

And you can see before I switch to 2X, the pause/play button already is flickering, so it does stutter at 1X, I only switched to 2X to show the problem more clearly. I actually watch the news at 2X so it matters to me that the problem is worse at 2X.

EQ was set to none, and I tried FFmpeg 5.x and that didn't help...

but I think switching to Use System Decoder actually fixed the problem! I don't understand why this happened now after I never had this issue for years, but this somehow fixed the problem I think. I'll let you know if it goes bad again. Thank you. But unfortunately, I have to manually select this option every time I start a video in order to be able to watch the video properly now.

But I do have another new problem, sorry. I can't play certain files, usually MKV. See the attached image for the error message:

Hello, I have a solution for this, but it is a kind of workaround. You can use Game Mode in Xbox to access 5GB of memory and 4 exclusive and 2 shared CPU cores. This might help with the situation.

I use an Xbox One, not an Xbox Series S or X, but thanks for the suggestion anyways. Since I couldn't find an acceptable solution for the stuttering playback problem on my Xbox One, instead I use Scorpio X on my PC (laptop) and hook it up to my TV through HDMI. But I have other problems now...

Issue 1: I mentioned in my previous comment with the screenshot. I get an error message when I play certain files (usually MKV), it says

"The request is invalid because Shutdown() has been called. (Exception from HRESULT: 0xC00D3E85)"

Issue 2: Since the last Scorpio Player update, I found that I can no longer increase or decrease playback rate with + or - keys anymore. I used that function a lot every day, so this has been a big problem for me. I tried to change hotkeys but I found that hotkeys can't be changed?

I also want to change the hotkey for Play/Pause, because when I use the Space button, it always causes a highlighted option on the menu bar (the last button I left-clicked with the cursor) to get pressed at the same time (so when I press space bar, it pauses or plays the video, but then if [skip forward] button is highlighted on the menu bar, it skips forward and pauses/plays at the same time). When I press the hotkey on my keyboard for pause/play I want it to always only pause or play, not do something else by mistake too.

Thanks for continuing to update and make Scorpio better. I think it can be the best and most flawless video player ever if issues continue to get resolved. Thank you for finally fixing the URL files issue.

Thanks for the feedbacks, I will look into it.

A quick note about the game mode:

It is actually available for Xbox One as well, but there are some disadvantages:

However, there are also some advantages:

You can refer to the flycast app, which also does this.

flycast app

And for how to get a Developer account and activate Game Mode, there are plenty of tutorials and videos if you search “xbox one how to activate dev mode” on Google or Bing.

Thanks, I will look into flycast and see if I can use that to help me.

Please get back to me about other issues, thanks.
