Use case: You want the subdomain https://mail.yourcustomdomain.com to redirect to your webmail via a DNS CNAME record. But it doesn't work, because the HTTPS certificate for inbox.purelymail.com isn't valid for your custom domain.
Some email hosts allow you to generate a certificate (and keep it up to date as needed) so that such a CNAME record works.

(a workaround for Cloudflare users is to make a custom redirect rule such that https://yourcustomdomain.com/mail points to webmail)
