Open Tobias-B-Besemer opened 6 years ago

Maybe more a discussion... ^^

Many people prefer Hiren'S BootCD over UBCD... So maybe mention it as alternative ??? http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ https://www.heise.de/download/product/hirens-bootcd-86184

I see at the moment, that it seems, that there are no new releases anymore... ...but after all is now in, I open the issue anyway... ;-) Feel free to close it again! ^^

Wow, I haven't heard about Hiren's in a while. I used to use it, as well, but it kind of dropped off the radar. And yeah, I think those links you posted in your first issue are old, the hiren.info one looks a lot more current.

They actually have a lot of stuff there, so I can probably just add it to the utility section. The reason I like UBCD is because of the constant active development and the large contributor base. Hiren's is good, but it seems like it's basically just one or two people. UBCD is even working on a UBCD distro to replace Parted Magic: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ubcdlive.html

Wow, I didn't knew that! Fixing no more so much PCs, so I missed a lot in the last years... Hiren's was really cool, as long it was warez, but after that it got really similar to UBCD...

Guess the System Rescue CD you have on the radar... http://www.system-rescue-cd.org/

I've run into it before, but I'll do some more research on it to see if it offers any advantages over the version of Parted Magic UBCD currently includes. Once the UBCD distro is out, I am pretty sure it will totally kill it.

I've been looking at the more "current" Hiren website and the last post was 2013 and the list of freeware is just a super long list of other people's software. And it's literally just a list and not really categorized in a way that might help people much, so I am kind of leaning against it entirely at this point.

OK.
