I've thought the same thing -- such a function would allow one to organize items in order when walking through the grocery store and save time shopping.
The stores I shop at don't arrange their products in aisles in alphabetical order. :-)
There have been a lot of good suggestions but according to F-Droid the last version was released about 18 months ago. It looks like another case of a potentially good FOSS app becoming unsupported.
Good analysis, well implemented, great app, poorly supported. Still, there's hope someone will implement the suggested enhancements because it's FOSS.
Abandoning its app doesn't build my confidence in SecUSo. We may need to look for another shopping list app if we want support.

An absolutely must have feature.
When it's really hot it's important to select cold and frozen foods towards the end of shopping, otherwise the meat and milk may go off or the ice-cream may thaw.
It would be nice if one could manually edit the order of the categories by sliding them up and down in a UI. For example, slide the "frozen" category to be after the "vegetables" category so that the frozen foods appear later on the shopping list.
