Don't be "yet another" encryption app, shall we? #50

As we are coming into shape as alpha build, many of the functionalities are basic. Thus we don't have a lot of innovation involved.

I was thinking that this does not really appeal to the audience, since this is just another encryption app. I am thinking that we can go creative and find new possibilities in this.

Some atypical features can be included, to make us really different. Any of you have some thoughts to share?

I have one in mind, that as the NFC technology matures, we can try to include 2-factor unlock, I.e. NFC+password or just by NFC. This could be much easier for user and less prone to forgotten password and such. (Of course, they can lose their NFC tag.)

Any other suggestions? ;)

An NFC tag can be read out very easy, which doesn't make it very secure. Things like the YubiKey [1] or the new U2F [2] standard are a lot more secure. I don't think that Secrecy is yet another encryption app, because other than most it is open source. I joined this project because I was searching for an app to encrypt pictures and data on my phone, but this HAD to be open source. Since I couldn't find any, I was thinking about starting my own application, but then Secrecy popped up in the F-Droid repo.

IMHO concentrating on being a great open source file encryption app is a reasonable task. And there are a few suggestions to make the app better at the uservoice page. (Folders in the vault, text editing, maybe sharing encrypted files. etc)

Seriously, Secrecy is not "yet another encryption app".

The focus of really encrypting, visualisation, concise app, open sourced (so, reliable and trustable security!) makes it really unique :)

I'm shared with NFC. I'm currently building apps on top of it, and it is not really secure. It would negate the security level L-Henke wanted/reached for latest build.

For me differentiation goes through the management of encrypted files: similar to what is done when you are reviewing pics, a password-oriented vault could handle the auth and launch the site/service, a PDT/Epub document could track the position where you have stopped reading, etc...

I'll take time to think about it.

My personal point of view : If we use NFC, it should be in addition to the password, and not in replacement.
