@RedFT, do you think you might be able to further develop your "Revenge of the Mafia" song? We currently have it uploaded as revenge.ogg in github for the game.
Dr. M is our planned villain - a librarian who quotes Shakespeare as he travels but is also building a monster army for nefarious purposes.
If for any reason we don't end up using "Revenge of the Mafia" as a theme song for Dr. M, we could still have a "Dr. M's Revenge" song.
I can try to recreate it. I'm currently trying to learn Renoise. I don't have a copy of Windows or OSX so I can't use FL Studio.
I would have to recreate it because I don't have the project files anymore.
I'm sorry to hear you lost them. If you're able to develop the song again, it would be appreciated.
What would you think about having musicians submit their project files (and have them saved in a drafts folder in github). This would make them "open source" and create a permanent backup.
That would like that actually. I noticed there's already such a system in place. On Oct 31, 2014 9:00 PM, "datahead8888" notifications@github.com wrote:

As far as I know, this system exists for art through SVG files. These are used to generate .png files.
We'll want to run this by aakburns and jobromedia, too. I think it makes sense, though. Collaboration in editing music and backups of files needed to modify them would have a lot of advantages.
The thing is, different DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) produce different project files. If aakburns and I use different DAWs, we will have a hard time collaborating with eachother.
We could work around this problem by using one DAW. But I'm not so sure anyone is willing to part with their DAWs.
In any case, I have a few project files that I'd like to backup already.
I'd say that if we do this, we'd just back up whatever format you guys have. If you're using different audio software, you're obviously not going to be able to just port it. Something is better than nothing, though.
I don't suppose there is a "cross platform' audio composing format, then.
Looks like there's something called 'open media format' On Oct 31, 2014 10:08 PM, "datahead8888" notifications@github.com wrote:

What ever happened to this?
The discussion went dead, and nothing was submitted. You're welcome to take a shot at it; you might try to come up with something thematic that can be remixed into other songs easily. Movies often reuse themes, and it would be cool if we did the same.
The title and credit themes are the ones we wanted to run a contest for. Once we get some budget questions answered, hopefully we can run a contest with prizes.
@datahead8888 What exactly did you have in mind for the "style" of it? I was thinking something sort-of-sinister-sounding, but with some more lighter-ish parts to interrupt the intensity. Just to give the sound like, "This is a guy that's bad but kind of cool".
Maybe with some more "grand-ish" sounds or something, for the Shakespeare part. :)
Ideally, the music would correspond to components of his character, as you hinted:
@Quintus - if you have any thoughts on using the story as a guideline for this piece, feel free to chime in. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun to compose :)
In my opinion, theme songs for dark sections of a game or villains can be very effective if they alternate between a dramatic, all powering section and a soft, thoughtful section. The contrast expresses a deep thought.
The really evil villain as we plan it will be Lord Âzdhor. If we can have a different, and strikenly evil theme for him that makes him different from Dr. M. himself that would be cool. In contrast to Dr. M.'s theme it can be a rather sharp music, causing a disgustive effect. In the music for Dr. M., there should also swing some moment of thought, of doubt; a reminder of his personality that is not a black or white shape.
Shall I create a task for the theme for Lord Âzdhor? Even Lord Âzdhor can't be pure evil, but he may effectively come close to it.
Shall I create a task for the theme for Lord Âzdhor?
Probably a good idea.
We ought to consider requesting a custom theme song for the Dr. M character. We can then request some remixes of it for some different points in the game (especially cinema scenes). This is another one of those items we will want to review carefully, since we want it to be iconic.
Themes can do a lot for a game . . . just think about the impact they had in the classic Star Wars movies.
This would probably NOT be the same song used on the title screen.
