More support for smartphones #516

I’ve encountered tons of problems trying to get Seedsigner software onto an SDcard.

At the moment SS only works for those with computers or old android phones as there is no way on iPhone or iPad to get the software onto an sdcard. Also ran into a problem with a new android phone as that wont run etchdroid as it’s not been maintained/updated so that further limits who can use Seedsigner.

I stumbled upon something that does work on newest android phones (still doesn’t solve it for Apple users) and maybe something like this can be done for downloading seedsigner in future for smartphones as more and more people move away from computers.

Thanks for considering it.

My findings —-

I had hoped the software bellow would work as is but I ran into a problem when selecting the custom OS feature (only way to load something not in the designated list), it will load Seedsigner software but then it won’t allow me to select the external SDcard to write it to. No idea why.

In an ideal world as more and more move away from computers to smart phones and tablets at the very least SS could ask the author of that software to host SS so it’s listed in the choose OS menu option as there was no problem writing OS’s from that menu to a connected sdcard via usb.

It would however be better if SS considered future users and designed a way for them to get the software without a computer or an old android device using their own software that people could trust.

Thanks for considering.

PS… yes I’ve written Tim Cook to allow Apple devices to write bootable files to SD cards. Fingers crossed that solves part of the problem for many.
