Why is there a hardcoded timeout of 30000 ms added here

I'm not sure tbh. These export formats go way back. I would expect a longer timeout than 30s to be honest, and then the timeout stuff would occur on individual steps.

@hrishi1096 - If you have something more sensible to propose, I'm on board with doing something like that here instead
