Linkedin images won't load when I didn't block Linkedin #96

I blocked youtube and facebook (just those two) and Linkedin's CSS didn't work. Then I cleared the cache and reopened Chrome and the css loaded, but none of the images did. Pretty weird...

It's been 2 hours and all the images load now... Not really sure why, but I'll take it.

It appears I spoke too soon as the images are gone from linkedin again...

@jasoncyu have you tried clearing your browser cache? And are you by chance using Firefox?

yeah, I saw the other ticket where you recommended clearing browser cache, but it didn't seem to make a difference... I'm using Chrome. Any idea why this happens? I checked the hosts file but not really sure which entry would block css loading for Linkedin and Amazon.

Hm, and you restarted the browser also? Try going to this link and telling me if that loads.

now github's css is gone, so it's a little hard to write a comment. I looked at the css being loaded, and https://a248.e.akamai.net/assets.github.com/assets/github-deacc71db3df368c127857126ecd56b570a8f5e7.css and https://a248.e.akamai.net/assets.github.com/assets/github2-0f35e82edc6c5561e29e6468d3a2adaf422632d3.css won't load.

maybe this is caused by AdBlock plugin or such ?

hmm I tried disabling adblock but nothing changed. Why would that help? Does selfcontrol do things other than modify hosts file and thwart user attempts to change it?

Hi, I'm been having similar issues where Self Control appears to be blocking what I asume to be one or more large CDNs used by some of the bigger websites including Linked In.

Here a couple of examples: -- Apple CDN used for images: http://store.storeimages.cdn-apple.com & http://images.apple.com -- LinkedIn CDN used for CSS: http://s.c.lnkd.licdn.com/ -- GitHub CDN: https://a248.e.akamai.net/

I have a feeling these could all be hosted on the Akamai CDN, I'm actually unable to access the Akamai homepage while Self Control is running even though it is not in my blacklist: http://www.akamai.com/

I did have apple.com on my blacklist but even after removing it the problem with images CDNs still occurs.

Same problem occurs in Chrome, Firefox and Safari for me. My browser is unable to connect to the server in each case. I don't have any other blocking type plug-ins running. As soon as Self Controls timer runs down I'm able to connect again to the images and to Akamai.com.

Having a similar issue, I think Github changed their CDN in the last week or so and now I am using Github with no stylesheets while SelfControl is on. Did some checking and it looks like the new CDN domain is http://github.global.ssl.fastly.net/ no longer Akamai. I have a lot of sites blocked with SelfControl so its really hard to tell what site is causing their CDN to be blocked. And it happens cross browser, definitely not a cache issue

For me it was www.theguardian.com which is hosted on the same CDN as GitHub uses for it's CSS.

Yep, I see the same as @buckett wrt GitHub and The Guardian.
