After experimenting a bit with this and discussion with a smarter architect than me (thanks @spoonjpb), this will not be implemented. Too much exposure of the data model, too rigid, and provides very little real end-user value.
Differentiate "Not Found" errors between an object that doesn't exist and an object that is improperly requested from a parent.
