Boss is a decay bug a form of creature perhaps not a bug that is incharge of decomposition of the land.
After so many years the creature evolved intellect and size.
Ancient beast eating the remains of the world all gathered in this one spot maybe killing it is a harm to the world that we live in?
Beetle? Bacteria? hinting less to Fungus , worms, snails, slugs done in most games, animations.

Story
Upon wandering down into what seemed like an ancient cavern. We suddenly stumbled upon a space but unlike the glacials or subterranean caverns of history. This place seemed slightly alive. A Place of Death? A place of New life? I could feel stares eating us right after whiffing a breeze of what seemed like a good smell.
Thereafter we continued to explore and stumbled upon a formation of rocks floating almost magically, could it be? gravity? or maybe an illusion? Impressive. We attempted to climb the rocks only to find what seemed like shadowy creature so many hands or are they feet what is it ? Its eating the ground ! It just looked towards us! This platform seems different to the rest maybe we can find a way to resolve this.
HE JUST GOT EATEN? ATTACK!
nothing? keep running guys... look .. the ... floor its ...lighting up !
Upon reaching the light the monster seemed confused.. Maybe this is the way.
We plunder the possibility "Is he a guardian" yet upon another inspection i think he's just hungry!
