This seems to also be the case with Alt-1, Alt-2, etc. I need to release the
Alt key or I can only press 1 or 2 different numbers and after that I get the
Windows error sound for additional number presses.

could you try another keyboard? you may be using a keyboard which doesn't
support nkey rollover, or alternatively not sending make/break codes
appropriately.
note: I'm just a user, and my paging key is control, so I haven't tried to
replicate your bug other than to say it's not a problem for me with cntrl on my
computer.

I'm running Windows 7 inside of a vmware fusion virtual machine. All I know is
that mdesktop is the only program that gives me this behavior. All other
programs (and virtual desktops) seem to work fine with holding down the
modifier key and pressing different keys.
Perhaps mdesktop uses a method for capturing key presses that works in many
computer situations but not all?

Came here looking for this issue. Tried installer, and compiled 1.6b3 from
source, and in both cases noticed this issue. Ctrl-Left and Ctrl-Right work
whilst holding down control, but if you use Alt as the modifier, you have to
release it and press it down again for it to work. I'm on Win7 64-bit. As
stated, it applies to both the next/prev hotkey and the desktop-chooser hotkey
(Alt-1,Alt-2,etc).

One other data point. This morning I accessed my desktop through Remote Desktop
Connection, using my laptop, and surprisingly the Alt-Left/Alt-Right navigation
worked without having to release the alt key. I think it's a keyboard specific
issue. I'll try to get more data when I'm back in front of the problematic
keyboard.
