This is really irritating, several times a day I get a windows disappeared and
I have to resort to killing the process and running it again.
But I am surprised nobody else has opened a similar issue, maybe it's something
in the spanish keyboard layout?
I have seen this in both vista 32b and win7 32b

Ok, makes sense, and then I think this need two fixes:
1. hotkeys work with only the left alt key
2. If you Ctrl-Alt-1 and you are in desktop1 already, window with current focus
disappears. Unles this intended?? If so, how to make it visible agian?

The hiding of a window when already in the desktop is definitely a bug. As for
the Left Alt. With the upcoming changes that have been made you can use
Ctrl+Shift instead of Ctrl+Alt and that should solve your problem.

I haven't been working on it yet, no. Actually, my only windows computer
crapped out on me. Windows 7 Black Screen when I boot. So I gotta fix that.

IMHO if only leftAlt can be implemented, this is the way to go. Then if you can
use Ctrl+Shift instead of Ctrl+Alt that is another option, not just for
overcoming this issue.

It would be nice, if you could add an option to disable the Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3
and Alt+4 hotkeys. When i have mdesktop running I can't write @, £ and $.

Well, you could just use the next- and previous hotkeys that you can define
yourself. Perhaps you could add an option to select different hotkeys for what
currently is Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3 and Alt+4.

@asger3p, that's already a feature. The numbers are hard coded but you get to
chose a modifier in the latest version we have in the source code.

I've just tried out mdesktop - I thought it was close to being the perfect
desktop switcher for Windows, until I noticed this issue. I use a Norwegian
keyboard, so AltGr+num are essential keys.
There are also other possible conflicts with Alt+num keys - applications could
well use them as hotkeys in the application. My personal preference, which I
use on Linux, is Win+num keys to change desktops, and Win+Shift+num keys to
move a window to a different desktop.

Download the source code from subversion, and also download AutoHotkeys. Run
mDesktop.ahk using AutoHotkeys and you get a newer version of mDesktop where
you can configure keyboard shortcuts better.

If nobody else confirms first, I'll test this when I'm back home in 3 days or
so, traveling now.
thanks

I tested this:
- the first issue still happens, that is, if I'm in desktop 1, and I AltGr+2,
the top window still moves to desktop 2
- second issue is fixed: if I'm in desktop 1, and I AltGr+1, window with focus
does not disappear any more
So at least the worse of the issues (for me) its fixed at least.

Good, now both issues are solved!
One minor thing not working is that AltGr+2 does not send the corresponding
key to the window (in spanish keyboard is @). But this is a smaller nuisance.
An another bad side-effect I just found: Win+R does not bring the Run window,
nothing appears...I have verified mdesktop is causing this as when I close it
Run Win+R works fine.
Anyway for now I'm using r26 :) thanks!

improvement for me at least...thanks again

in spanish keyboad, AltGr+2 is the way to write @ (according to comments by
others, in some other keyboards is used to enter other keys, depends). If I
have focus on notepad for example, and I enter AltGr+2 I would expect a @
written in notepad, but i get nothing at all.

Unfortunately the "Send Desktop modifiers" configuration does not work in this
version (r28), the only combination I can get to work is ctrl-alt. I have not
tested all combinations though, but at least shift-ctrl and shift-alt do not
work. In r24 this works better (i.e. I can get shift-ctrl to work, which is
what I want).

Hi, sorry for my response time. I have tested R28 and have observed the
following (without thorougly investigation every combination):
1. The AltGr-<n> issue has been solved making '@', '£', and '$' is again
available. Great!
2. Mapping "Send Desktop modifiers for numeric keys" to Shift-Ctrl does *not*
work
3. After mapping back to Ctrl-Alt I receive the attached error message mDesktop
does not work anymore.

But since the AltGr-issue is solved the issues I mentioned in commment 39 are
no show-stoppers for me so I'm OK with R28. Thanks again Jason!

Another observation which possibly is intentional is that the '@' character is
still echoed to the active window when I use the Ctrl-Alt-2 to send the active
window to desktop 2. I would have expected that mDesktop would have consumed
that character and only sent the Window to desktop 2. This is easily reproduced
(with eg a scandinavian keyboard) by sending eg Notepad to desktop 2.

Although I like mdesktop, I'm really sorry to say that at least on Estonian
keyboard, where AltGr+2 should do '@', it still does not work. Using 1.6,
downloaded few days ago.

I tested mDesktop1.6b2. Now I get this issue again:
"AltGr+2 does not send the corresponding key to the window (in spanish keyboard
is @)."
So I revert to R28 that for me is the best working so far.
