4 years ago Definitely. The primary motivation was to allow notification count access to external applications.
The only major draw back is that it will only poll the last 75 messages so the resulting number may differ from the unread count api.
This enables an experiment to display an unread count next to the "Conversations" tab. This also enables an invisible unread count for external app access such as Franz, Rambox, or Station.
