Enhancement idea: multilingual interface #29

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Any plans on supporting multiple languages? Might be a nice touch for this
already very complete client!

And if so: I'd be willing to do the Dutch translation :)

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Agreed, this would be an excellent feature and something I will commit to
implementing in the near future.

Although transmission-remote-dotnet's codebase isn't big, there's still a huge
amount
of English strings all over it :) I have a bit of free time so I'll start
creating a
English .resx, but it'll probably be something that will take a few attempts to
become really complete.

When I have the English .resx file ready, a Dutch translation would be really
appreciated. From the users I've talked to and the google analytics report on
this
google code site, I think there could be a lot of other translations too.

When .resx will be ready, I can do Russian and Ukrainian translation.

I've finally got round to creating the .resx files for localization in .NET.

The following files need to be translated (probably in Visual Studio.. the
express
verson is free) and you can find the English ones here
http://transmission-remote-dotnet.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/TransmissionClientNew
/

AboutDialog.resx
ErrorLogWindow.resx
LocalSettingsDialog.resx
MainWindow.resx
OtherStrings.resx
RemoteSettingsDialog.resx
StatsDialog.resx
TorrentPropertiesDialog.resx
UriPromptWindow.resx

Maybe we should try translating one window first to make sure it's done right.
If
anyone is kind enough to maintain translations I'll probably give them a svn
repository for it.

I would be please to do the french translation.

Original comment by romar...@gmail.com on 20 Mar 2009 at 9:26

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
A French translation would be great, thanks. :)

Like I mentioned above, I'd like just one small window translating first. This
is
just in case these .resx's are wrong and you waste your time translating
everything.

If you can attach a translated version of this, I'll add it to svn and then
check it
works OK. You can translate it in Visual Studio 2008 Express (free), or I
suppose you
could use an XML editor, or even text editor if you're careful. You don't need
to
translate everything in it, since a lot of things (like '.Name' properties) are
used
internally. The main thing to translate is things ending in '.Text'.

http://transmission-remote-dotnet.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/TransmissionClientNew
/TorrentPropertiesDialog.resx

Thanks!

I have checked my localized version of TR and I cannot find some of the text
resources:
- Speed tab:
   * kB/s in the legend
- Remote settings:
   * The drop down list item cannot be translated.

Furthermore, due to localized version of the text, I may be needed to increase
the
size of certain labels.

I've attached updated version of the .resx files.

Many thanks! I've comitted your translations and hopefully fixed those things
you
mentioned above.

Couple of questions:

1) Is megabyte => megaoctet, MB => MO like I've done?
2) What name do you want to be credited with?

I'll try to make the labels wide enough soon. These are actually set in your
.resx
files, so I have to change it in the designer and then manually in your files
(unless
I find a better way).

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Btw, can you please make any future changes based on what's in svn so things
don't
get out of sync.

I used google translator for the things I changed like language, required,
tolerated
etc so if there's a problem with them let me know.

Thanks again

To answer your questions:
- Megabyte is Megaoctect (and megabytes is megaoctets :-))
- "Romaric R." will be OK
- I will sync my source to svn for any further changes
- Language = langage, required = requis (it may depend on the usage), tolerated
=
toléré/accepté

Original comment by romar...@gmail.com on 23 Mar 2009 at 8:59

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Now that Romaric's French translation seems to have been a success and works
well,
I've put up a wiki page for anyone else interested in translating
transmission-remote-dotnet. :)

Cheers matey, that'd be great. Fortunately we don't need an English translation
:)

Just so you know, there's a couple of extra options (some speed/ratio limits)
and
buttons (reannounce) that will appear in the next few days. If you translate
before
these items can always be appended to your .resx files of course.

Let me know if you get stuck with anything.

Looks great, I've just committed it. :) You might notice that that a few things
wrong
in terms of positioning and sizes of UI elements when using your translation,
but
I'll fix this.

It's just because your .resx has some old versions of .Size, .Location
properties
etc. The best solution is to remove anything other than .Text, .ItemN etc from
all
the translation .resx's, but neither of us want to do that manually so I'll
write a
script sometime soon. :)

Also, there's one or two new options in TorrentPropertiesDialog and/or
RemoteSettingsDialog which probably need translating... If you just reply with
them
here I'll add them myself.

Many thanks again,
Alan

After translating i compiled it and it looks ok.

However, which options do you mean?

I will update the .resx files asap, but next week i'm away on business.

no problem, tanks u for this great client for this "client to a client" :)

see you,
Benjamin

Sorry, should have mentioned which ones they are. Actually, there's only two
things.
Most of these features will be unavailable if you're not using a recent svn
version,
but will be after the 1.60 release.

In remote settings dialog -> speed limits (now renamed simply to "Limits") ->
"Seed
Ratio Limit" and the "Update Blocklist" button.

Just a small correction on the french translation.
It is more appropriate to use Ko/s, Mo/s and Ko, Mo instead of KO and MO.
Of course, it's really not urgent.

Polish translation ver.2
-------------------------

Im confused, because some new options has been added in 3.7, ie:
"Downloads network share" input.
Im not sure how we should put them into translations .resx files.

I check structure of original LocaleSettingsDialog.resx and
LocaleSettingsDialog.pl-PL.resx from ver.1. I seen that You removed not
necessary
fileds, thats ok, but You didn't add a new ones. So it seems that needed node is
searched in translated file first, and if not found is searched in orig
(english)
file. Am I right?

I attached new nodes, like this in Local Settings windows:

-- LocalSettingsDialog.resx -----------------------
  <data name="sambaShareEnabledCheckBox.Text" xml:space="preserve">
    <value>Downloads network share: </value>
  </data>
-- LocalSettingsDialog.pl-PL.resx ---------------------
  <data name="sambaShareEnabledCheckBox.Text" xml:space="preserve">
    <value>Katalog pobierania w sieci: </value>
  </data>
-----------------------

Couple bugs and suggestions:

1. "Recheck torrent(s)" button seems to be not translated from
"recheckTorrentButton.Text" node.
2. Set torrent(s) proporties" button seems to be not translated from
"configureTorrentButton.Text" node.
3. "Reannounce Button": dont like this button here (in main window), my suggest
is to
move it in to "menus bar".

-------------------------
Regards
Woodzu

Unfortunately it's inevitable that when a new feature is added that some of the
translations might contain English until they're updated. I remember seeing a
program
called resxsynchroniser or something that would add the new entries to the
resx's.

If anyone wants to send me an updated translation, just send it directly to my
email
address (in help->about). Thanks for your update Woodzu, I've just committed it
:-)

To all translators:

Unfortunately I had to release 3.8 to fix a fairly serious bug and support the
X-Transmission-Session-Id header before I could try to gather updated
translations,
and I don't have much time this month.

The good news is, I've managed to synchronise all your translations with the
English
resx's so it's easy for you to see what needs translating. If you have the time
to
update them, please email me (until I setup svn repositories) a zip and I'll
probably
be able to commit it soon.

Thanks

Thanks for working on a Spanish translation :)

The upload prompt option causes a dialog asking for file priorities and
desination
directory when a .torrent is opened (ie. from your browser. Like uTorrent.
