Won't it be much easier to output LaTeX code and compile it ?
So what you mean is that for generating the PDF, we just generate LaTeX code and then compile it? And that way we can get a presentable schedule ready to be put up on the site so that people across the world can download the PDF? That would be neat. Was checking the documentation. Doesn't seem hard. But will take some time to understand it properly.
Exactly. With LaTeX you don't really have to worry about it look neat. It will look awesome. :). Look up tables in LaTeX. Or download lyx, Make a table and look at the code. :)
Alright. Will check it out. Am currently working on upgrading the venue selector to allow multiple venues to be selected. After that I am supposed to update the date picker. I will look at this last of all since this is only an enhancement. By the way, by when is the schedule completely decided and put up?
Around 10 days before Shaastra I guess.
The PDF generated as the output of the DTV Picker needs a better template (like last year's) so that it can be posted on the website for people to see (check out last year's schedule at http://www.shaastra.org/Schedule%20Shaastra%202011.pdf).
Also, last year's schedule says which events have no registration or on-site registration. Is there some field like that (registration_required, or something) in the events model? We should be able to check that and put that in the PDF also (by shading the cells).
