The experimental branch may bring great stuff for x86, but then it would also make RTAI very specific to x86. This means that it would be highly unlikely it would ever make it to mainstream RTAI. Not only that, it has also removed support for earlier kernels (it doesn't compile on my 2.6.38.8)
Please, do NOT merge this branch with master. You can create an x86-only branch for stable releases of experimental if you want.
In the master branch instead we can do cleanups that don't conflict with mainstream RTAI or add features that are portable.
