I am not planning to publish on Fdroid store as of now. However I can make apk releases directly here, will that suffice ?
Yeah its kinda odd, why only publish to gPlay? Is it because you are including google analytics in Soundbound so it wont meet f-droid requirements? So if you publish an apk here will it be the same version as gplay? And so with no soundbound repo that I can see, can we assume it's not open-source?
Yes, as of now its not open source.
Yes I am not considering fdroid mainly because of analytics and crashlytics easy access from firebase.
I loved Spotiflyer so its rather disappointing to hear all this, especially when there are some really good privacy respecting analytics options available. Do hope you will reconsider your userbase with these decisions as I'm sure im not the only one.
I understand, I will consider building a flavor of app which will not have Google or any related privacy envading dependencies, if we get a lot of traction here.
however making the app opensource is not yet decided, since I dont want copies of the app popping up here and there, as seen with other open source apps, like newpipe, libretube and so. See:
I don't think that should deter you from making it open source. Also what is your backup plan if Soundbound gets removed from play store, you know how google can be sometimes.

I dont think soundbound itself does anything shady, refer stremio app, it as well is on playstore, user bears the responsibility which plugin it uses and which not.
However in unfortunate case, soundbound will be conitune avlbl online from its website, telegram community and helpdesk.

It may still be considered a circumvention app since it downloads music from services that may not permit user downloads to DRM free content. With or Without plugins if they consider it the frontend they might still classify it as a circumvention tool. It's up to google in the end.

I understand your concerns though keep in mind that when it comes to downloader apps like this closed source is a huge dealbreaker for most since a lot of the closed source ones tend to have malware and trackers in them, not saying yours does but naturally people will be suspicious of apps of this nature which lack open source transparency. Also previous project encouraged forking so long as it doesn't violate license, it seems a bit hostile towards the community to go back on that.

I see ur pov, but this is the decision from my side as of now, also I believe I have earned somewhat good will in community that I wont be shiiping malware and so, at end, it is upto user to trust me or not.

I have not removed spotiflyer from github, its still opensource, I am just developing new stuff and not opensourcing that yet, I think thats fair, again its not a derivative of spotiflyer, its new arch and setup aiming to solve old problems and in due time able to do a lot more.

I will say that it seems like you have earned some good will at least since, though I'm sure a lot of people will still be skeptical, after all bait and switches aren't super uncommon, especially after Chainfire and the SuperSU controversy more people aren't as willing to blindly trust people anymore. Also can't be sure that the good will didn't come from OSS in the first place. I'm taking a most neutral stance here since like you said earlier the licensing isn't 100% settled, only outlining things based on how people might react.

I say that because the community may want to tinker with or contribute to current projects and not just past projects. Though like you said time will tell if that changes in the future.

Yes, anyway, upto the user totally.

Also I dont see anyone making a derivative from spotiflyer, and its been online for what 2 / 3 years ..., We mostly got translations PRs
Also sounbound is designed in such a way that its extensible with plugins. So user can still integrate new sources and will make user making Translation PRs possible for soundbound, once we go stable.
Thanks man, for communicating your concerns.here.
Hello, greetings from Mexico. Soundbound is a great project and I love it, but it was recently removed from the Google Play Store. I'm frustrated by this. What will happen to the project? Where will we get app updates? Many great apps are available for download on Github when they are removed from the Google Play Store. I honestly love your app, I've had it since it was called Spotiflyer and I'd love to keep using it now that it's been removed from the Play Store. I would love for you to upload the apk to make it available on the official website (soundbound.app). I look forward to your response. Greetings from Mexico

I think it's likely that google pulled it due to a request on a count of the nature of the app, or he pulled it because he isn't getting the positive attention towards it that he hoped, or possibly for other reasons. Either way unless he does something in response, this app is dead, and doesn't have much hope for it to continue.
Since there is no repo for soundbound I'll put it here:
I cannot switch from Spotiflyer to Soundbound as it is unavailable on LineageOS 20 w/o Google Play Store.
