Closed agcomptech closed 4 months ago

agcomptech commented 4 months ago

Version Number problem appears in
8.5.2.0

Describe the bug Can't import .ged file

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to 'file'
  2. Click on 'import'
  3. Select the file you want to import [g2013.ged]
  4. Click on 'open'
  5. See error 'the request is not supported"

Expected behavior I expect the file to be uploaded for review.

Screenshots If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Additional context I have tried opening several different .ged files and they all give the same error.

ShammyLevva commented 4 months ago

Please attach a sample GEDCOM file for review as there have been hundreds of thousands of GEDCOM files loaded into the program over the years so something is wrong in the generation of your files that is causing the issue.

Without seeing the file I cannot tell what the issue is.

agcomptech commented 4 months ago

I resolved the issues. The program didn't like the .ged file was stored on my network. Once I copied it to the desktop, it imported. Thank you for your timely response.

Hmm fascinating, normally windows doesn’t care where a file is located and works exactly the same whether it’s local, network or remote cloud service. Eg: I’ve loaded files over my company VPN from files stored on that network.

Was there any error reporting at all beyond the vague message that may give a hint as to what the issue was? I appreciate the often times windows is really poor at giving detailed error message for fear of frightening users. However there may be something in the event log?

I didn't get any error other than it not importing.
