User Testing- UI Options #261

Closed Sabrina-Knappe closed 1 year ago

Sabrina-Knappe commented 1 year ago

In light of recent feedback on the difficulties using the context menu users are encountering, three options have emerged to allow users to more easily access the IMAGE extension:

We propose the following steps to determine the best option:

This issue will be closed when we've decided on a path forward for our UI in the short term.

Moving to Nov14 sprint since it depends on Nov14 sprint work items. @Cybernide Should this go to Dec05 sprint?

Cybernide commented 1 year ago

My gut says this should be moved to Dec 5 since we're still doing investigation on existing systems. @Sabrina-Knappe I'd like your input on this

jeffbl commented 1 year ago

After discussion with @Cybernide , assigning to them in asap.

I've been informed that there's still some debate about what to do with this issue: @sabrina has suggested a button, but there is concern that it might mess with CSS files and layout of certain webpages. @JRegimbal is that correct? My gut is that blind individuals might not care about messing out with CSS files and layout so long as DOM is doing its job, but maybe this isn't the case.

If so, what are the alternatives? Is this something we can test for?

JRegimbal commented 1 year ago

It might break CSS/webpage layout. We also may run into the same weird bugs as we've had with buttons for charts/maps where they don't get added correctly just because we aren't hooking into built-in functionality for that...that being said we may be able to find a way for this to work with the correct HTML layout and styling. Considering that web dev is the wild west, I do not fully trust that breaking layout will not have a negative impact on either functionality or accessibility.

Other point - how would we deal with the many small images used for styling on a web page? Obviously we should hide on things with the aria-hidden label, but I'm not sure how widely used that label is.

OK I suggest we simply put this into the test extension and try it out with users. I'll write up a plan but otherwise let's aim to have this implemented for testing in the new year. Making an issue of its implementation and assigning to Jaydeep. @jeffbl should I close?

jeffbl commented 1 year ago

@Cybernide as long as all options are captured in other issues, I'm fine with closing this.
