Brainstorm better name for project (a la "Autour"). Feel free to add ideas here!

ImageReader?

David suggested, and asked me to post here: ATP Rosetta Project

jeffbl commented 3 years ago

Spent some time with a thesaurus this afternoon, thinking about words that try to sum up the goal, as a basis for a name. None really stood out, but below are some to help provoke other ideas. Note that we can also do an acronym if we can come up with a good one...

Better ones imho: reveal, delve, impart, convey, gist, represent

Ones I liked less: upshot, revelation, revel, liken, equate, conjure, reflect, imagine, mind's eye, focus, panorama, inform, tell, divulge, proclaim, scout, explore, traverse, scrutiny, legwork, spectacle, envisage, grandstand, panorama, expo, manifest, unveil, affirm, knowledge, seek, snoop, plateau, paragon, equalize, render, tableau, marvel, exhibit, diorama, unpack, essence, crux, essential, epiphany, oracle, inspire, clue, proclaim

From Jeff's list I like: 1) convey 2) reveal

Convey, reveal, Rosetta, all good to me. Can we try making reverse-acronym to find a better meaning?

e.g., Rosetta: Reanalysis Of Sight, Encoded to Text-Tactile-Audio

Names from SRL Lab meeting brainstorm

Words implying clarity/going beyond surface meaning: elucidate, lucid, lucidity, elicit, confluence, fluence, Éclair, Éclaireur (scout, pathfinder), reVision (based on Anotan's "(re)vision"), fusion

Mythology: Themis (justice, separating fact from fiction) Pythia (oracle of delphi) Tiresias (blind prophet of apollo, clairvoyance) Tiri for short Terhas (divine sign, etymology of tiresias) Sibyl (Greek prophet)

Others (which I think have one problem or another): pensieve, Synesthesia, Aesthesis, légende, caption, sous-titre, ImageOracle, enchant, Magorical, resonance, globetrotter, modulus, divulgence, emphasis, vanguard, harmony, talking graphics, unison, mind eye, intuition, illusory, intuit, vibrancy, vibrant, vibe, concord, evoke, invoke, arrow, condor, confluence-con, pixure, touxure, olm, Deluminatoral, Probity Probe, Sneakoscope, limn, kagome, démêler, oracle, appartenance

I like Tiresias

jeffbl commented 3 years ago

The three top contenders appear to be:

  1. Lucid
  2. Eclair
  3. Tiresias

We took a vote at the end of the tech-arch meeting, and the votes were (with names, in case I misrepresent someone! Note that Sri changed his vote from Tiresias to Eclair after listening to Tiresias being pronounced by NVDA as "tire-s-eye-s")

Eclair 5: Juliette Sabrina Rayan Yongjae Sri Tiresias 2: Florian Rohan

Do any final brainstorming for something else asap (e.g., Florian suggested casting a culturally wider mythology net), and let's raise it one last time at the Wednesday rendering meeting?

David suggested in email:

IMAGE - Internet Multi-Modal Access to Graphical Exploration

I like it. Other acronym suggestions? Issues with this name?

Should it be pronounced in the English or French? Can the acronym work in French as well?

florian-grond commented 3 years ago

IMAGE - Internet Multi-Modal Access to Graphical Exploration I like it! Internet could also be Interactive

jeffbl commented 3 years ago

We have decided on IMAGE. Separate items are being logged for updating website, etc.
