Do you, or did you had Optifine installed when the issue took place?

No

Tried reproducing without Optifine?

Yes

Describe your issue

If the said cells have an NBT data, the ME system won't be able to use them as a valid input item in autocrafting. Th NBT data is obtained when the cell is placed in a player's hand.

Unfortunately, this won't be fixed as it is a problem with ae2 itself. 1.16.5 doesn't have support anymore, so there's nothing we can do.
