@iceberg901 do you have a date you think we can have this done by? Goal to get live by 12/28/12?
@vincentiadevaia agreed to finish the design today. If that happens @matyus and I can certainly have this done by EOD Friday, or even earlier, if nothing else more pressing distracts us.
PS Also given that we have some messaging that we're happy with my that time.
All initial tests, including those described as "Post MVP", have been implemented. Additional tests are forthcoming but all work described within this issue is complete.
This contains my original project wizard email edited to incorporate the feedback I received.
I want to put Shelby search on the SEO Video pages. You arrive at the page via a google search, so present you with UI like this:
Click on "Search!" and I'll take you to the Shelby web app which will pull up a Shelby search for that query and start playing the results. Note that this will work fine for both logged in and anonymous users as Shelby search is fully functional in logged out mode.
Initial implementation will also include an A/B test of the position of the search UI to see where it gets more use - either above or below the the main video on the page.
Who is this for?
The 10+ thousand people who visit our seo video pages everyday.
Why?
So we can bring them into the Shelby app instead of having them just disappear. At best lets make them into Shelby users or repeat anonymous visitors, but at worst lets make them friends of Shelby or people who know the Shelby brand name and may be inclined to reuse this feature or otherwise use other things with the Shelby brand on them when they see them.
Build
Messaging by @ckurdziel @reecepacheco @spinosa @vincentiadevaia and anyone else to decide what explanatory text goes above the search box Design by @vincentiadevaia Implementation by @matyus and @iceberg901 up to 1 day design and messaging review 1-2 days build
How will this feature be marketed or get to the people who will use it?
Our SEO pages market themselves via Google search.
Launch
No fanfare required, just build, test, deploy, start looking at the data, iterate.
Post MVP
Attempt to parse the URL that you came from and figure out what you searched for. Then pre-populate our search box with the search text that got you here, so you can just search Shelby with one click.
