Project Wizard <Queue --> REC> #761

Closed reecepacheco closed 11 years ago

reecepacheco commented 11 years ago

Project REC tl;dr - change the Queue button to REC. make it more vague and expose the actions in the stream to solve 'empty room'

WHO AND WHY - who is this being built for and why will they use it? how will this feature/product get to those that it is meant for? Who? Shelby users. Why? To give users a lightweight way of interacting with Shelby that could be used to 1. save/remember the video 2. acknowledge/thank the Roller 3. Recommend others see it further, it will help build community and solve the “empty room” feeling that Shelby currently has

WHAT AND HOW - what is this supposed to look like (design)? how will it be used by the end user (ux)? replace Queue button with REC. icon is a simple circle like a RECORD button on a VCR plus the text "REC". REC = Record OR Recommend. it’s purposely vague if a video is REC’d, the original Roller is notified. said video will then show those who have REC'd it (showing their avatars - see wireframe attached) aiding discovery of other users within Shelby replace Queue navigation link with REC’d. show YOUR REC's here. maintain ability to "unREC" something

GO / NO GO - does shelby really need this? is this going to get built? YES. users miss the “like” functionality. users are not Rolling. Rolling is too heavy still.

BUILD IT Vincent/Josh/Matyus?

LAUNCH IT - with or without fanfare? staged, IRL UX tested, improved, deployed, included in an email update to early users, then explained in onboarding for all users eventually.

ANALYZE IT - is anyone using this? why or why not? how can it be improved? what went right, what went wrong? will be simple to see if users engage and iterate from there. IMG_1076

Next steps here look like the following:

@vincentiadevaia will design assets for this @iceberg901 and @matyus will implement designs/functionality

Guys - can you provide an estimate on how long this might take so I can set our target date accordingly? If you need clarification on specs/behavior, let's chat IRL.

i'm not 100% sold on "●REC"

I propose "✔ Keep" instead

  1. i thought Project Wizard needed to go through PP meeting on FRI before work on it begins
  2. i think it's weird/not the most efficient means to have a product discussion in GH
ckurdziel commented 11 years ago

As per PP meeting today, @reecepacheco will figure out the name offline and update @vincentiadevaia. @iceberg901 and @matyus can implement when ready.

iceberg901 commented 11 years ago

ESTIMATE: After design is done I would estimate that @matyus and I working on this full time could have it ready to go live in 3-4 days.

iceberg901 commented 11 years ago

@reecepacheco @ckurdziel @hsztul @spinosa Still haven't seen a consensus on what the new name is and whether showing the avatars of likers is MVP, or whether this is just a simple A/B test where we change the name and see if we get more clicks. What's up?

spinosa commented 11 years ago

Make it "like" and move forward. It's not official yet, but shall we say it's... likely

Designs are close; what's the estimated done date @vincentiadevaia ?

@spinosa Something that hadn't occurred to me: Are you supposed to be able to unlike it from the same button as you like it? You can't do this with queue - once you queue something, you have to go to your queue in order to remove it. Might need a bit more work on the backend to be able to unlike it from the same place.

ckurdziel commented 11 years ago

@iceberg901 - Ideal behavior would be to unlike, but let's take it one step at a time? If people interact with it more, we can make the change later (unless that makes it more work overall to wait).

@iceberg901 not being able to unlike form where you liked - having to unlike from your liked roll - is fine.

FYI: We joked about being able to like something more than once, just for fun. "I LIKE IT 100!" If we were to implement that, this "shortcoming" would effectively disappear.

The circle is complete. Like gave way to queue which has become like.
