Project Wizard: Expose Internal Commenting #779

Closed ckurdziel closed 11 years ago

To be filled out by @spinosa

We need to make our internal commenting (& Disqus integration) more obvious, easy and inviting (not hidden behind a link).

spinosa commented 11 years ago

since the project wizard is more of a gut check, i'll be developing the crux of this project (wireframes) first, then going to the wizard once i'm psyched about the idea

This shouldn't entail a ton of engineering work since the comment systems exists and works, it just isn't used.

The goal of this design is to make a big impact on the UX; get users actually using our commenting system.

There is one change to Guide: (1) "leave a comment" link becomes a larger, smarter widget that shows some life. There are two changes to Video Footer: (1) "leave a comment" link becomes a larger, smarter widget that shows some life. (2) The other three action buttons move to the right of the comments

I want to give comments a fighting chance, and bury them if they lose the fight.

As we're soon launching fredwilson.tv and integrating disqus, which his community uses enthusiastically, this experiment is being refined with an eye toward fw.tv to see if/how that community comments on videos.

Refinements

The disqus thread is brought up with our standard comment overlay. Since it's loaded dynamically, and supports non-logged in users, we need a couple of changes from the above wireframes:

Guide views 2 and 3 won't exist (we don't have data on additional comments) The "add comment" widget will need either a generic avatar or the user's disqus avatar (if disqus provides some api/widget to grab that) Otherwise, the test as originally defined is perfectly applicable to fredwilson.tv

Integrated Discussion

As mentioned by @matyus this change does not live in isolation. It must be thoughtful of the updates to the feature formerly known as queue and deserves some whiteboarding time with him and @vincentiadevaia. I'll schedule that for Monday.

Comments have been removed from Shelby at the moment - tabling this and closing for now. Will reopen if the need for commenting resurges in the future.
