WHO AND WHY

who is this being built for and why will they use it? how will this feature/product get to those that it is meant for?

Who? -- Normals that text and like sharing videos (starting with our well known core male demo). These folks will spread it organically by shelby chatting with friends that haven't downloaded the app yet. Why? -- Will help drive awareness of Shelby, collect contact info of potential flagship app users. Has potential as a standalone app (it's a novel interaction) utilizing the Shelby Video Graph and other infrastructure.

WHAT AND HOW

what is this supposed to look like (design)? how will it be used by the end user (ux)?

Take hackday project and make it legit. Design and UX is same as web. Will require some additional backend functionality (that i will build) to store users phone number and allow sign ups of Shelby Chat directly from app. Will use native iOS notifications to keep app top of mind. Will be able to shelby chat with friends via phone or email (therefore needs address book integration). Non-users will get email or text message so they can access via mobile web. Mobile web will get an app-download promo banner.

does shelby really need this? is this going to get built?

does shelby necessarily need this? no. is it possibly a distraction where dan could be focused elsewhere? maybe. could it get built? yes (~1 month of coding time). are there higher payoff tasks dan should be doing instead? TBD

What kind of video playback are you planning on incorporating? A Custom video player, or direct playback via the embedded players in a UIWebView?
