Shelby Video Search (Chrome Web App) #798

WHO AND WHY

Who is this being built for and why will they use it?

This is being built for people that are looking to find specific video and enjoy watching it. The focus is 100% on chrome users. Most of which are familiar with web apps already

How will this feature/product get to those that it is meant for?

This is the whole point. We can use the Chrome webstore as distribution as a way to test usage of search on shelby as well as the language we use to sell shelby (search in particular)

Why?

We've talked about providing logged out utility for our Chrome extension and I see this as a first step to that end that takes almost zero work.

WHAT AND HOW

What is this supposed to look like (design)? how will it be used by the end user (ux)?

This is all built already. Really this is just a glorified link to http://shelby.tv/search

thoughts? /cc @spinosa @reecepacheco @ckurdziel @iceberg901

It's not a distraction at all. We're supposed to be spending the first segment of the year getting the most we can out of search and this is perfectly in line with that.

Let's throw a param on all requests that come from this app so we can distinguish them as a unique source of traffic, A/B testing data, etc, for example:

presented as such, you have my vote with the caveat that it's not as "set it and forget it" as one might think... there are always bugs, there is user feedback, there is app store propaganda to be completed, there is analysis needed etc...

finally, there should be a goal for the launch of this "xxxx users by yyyy date" and if we don't hit it, we reassess/kill it

Go for it @sztul.

Essentially this is increasing the size of our funnel for search, which I'm all for. As long as we're putting them into an existing funnel ( shelby.tv/search is essentially the same as coming in from SEO and doing another search) and not creating a new one, then we're not really creating much new work for us in terms of optimization. Let's do it and see if we can maximize the app store entry, etc to direct as many people as possible to search. If it's successful, we can explore doing this for other funnels into the app.

Only suggestion - I agree with @reece - we should set a date and a goal for users and/or regular clicks.

Ok, thanks for feedback.

I'm going to proceed with this.

I like this as a quick build to test expanding an existing funnel.

In it's current form, this is essentially a glorified bookmark. So we should include retention in its KPIs.

Are there any other nice things the Chrome store gives us to make this more compelling? If so, they could be added later to see how they affect the KPIs

ckurdziel commented 11 years ago

Going to close this as it's been complete and is in the store.
