Had similar problems. I do it in a dockerfile but I think the solution is the same. I just installed everything though conda (instead of pip). Even pytorch and xformers. No need to compile xformers. For stuff which has no conda support I installed pip through conda and used that pip for the rest. After that everything worked like a charm.
Describe the bug
I ran a training command after having installed xformers but I got the xformers error.
Reproduction
I included the following in requirements.txt: accelerate==0.12.0 torchvision transformers>=4.21.0 ftfy tensorboard modelcards
then ran: pip install git+https://github.com/ShivamShrirao/diffusers.git pip install -r requirements.txt pip install bitsandbytes pip install git+https://github.com/facebookresearch/xformers.git@main#egg=xformers accelerate config (and answered questions there, no distributed training, no deepspeed, fp16 etc) logged in with huggingface access token in CLI got my dataset
