I am leaning towards version 2 of the main Resources page. And we discussed going with version 2 for the page when you click on a card/category. Will need to build out the rest of the pages and figure out what will be organized under what category.
Working on the IA and organization of categories for Resources:
I think some of the single pages (small text) can be under multiple categories if it relates to more than one. For example, I was thinking "Performance" could work under How to Use I2P and maybe I2P Network? maybe Troubleshooting?
I2P Network Intro Reseeds I can't access regular Internet sites through I2P I can't access https:// or ftp:// sites through I2P What makes downloads, torrents, web browsing, and everything else slower on I2P as compared to the regular internet? Glossary
I2P Software what is included What systems will I2P run on? Why is I2P listening on port 32000? Is installing Java required to use I2P? What is an "I2P Site?" How do I add addresses to the Address Book? How Does I2P find ".i2p" websites? How do I connect to IRC within I2P? How do I set up my own I2P Site? What do the Active x/y numbers mean in the router console? How can I access the web console from my other machines or password protect it? I'm missing lots of hosts in my address book. What are some good subscription links? What ports does I2P use?
Troubleshooting My router is using a large amount of CPU, what can I do about this? My router has very few active peers, is this OK? My active peers / known peers / participating tunnels / connections / bandwidth vary dramatically over time! Is anything wrong? In wrapper.log I see an error that states "Protocol family unavailable" when loading the Router Console Most of the I2P Sites within I2P are down? My router has been up for several minutes and has zero or very few connections How do I reseed manually?
Privacy And Safety I am opposed to certain types of content. How do I keep from distributing, storing, or accessing them? Is it possible to block I2P? If I host a website at I2P at home, containing only HTML and CSS, is it dangerous? Is it possible to use I2P as a SOCKS proxy? Is my router an "exit node" to the regular Internet? I don't want it to be. Is using I2P Safe? I see IP addresses of all other I2P nodes in the router console. Does that mean my IP address is visible by others? Is it easy to detect the use of I2P by analyzing network traffic? Is using an outproxy safe? What about "De-Anonymizing" attacks?
Advanced Router Configuration -NAT -PGP?
Network Contribution Guides -Bandwidth -NAT? -Translations -Reseeds -Mirror site
Developers Guides -Gitlab over I2P Setup -new developers -using an IDE with I2P -developers coding style -git -monotone

Thanks! This is great, super helpful for the wireframes and IA
I started putting all this in a spreadsheet to organize everything better.
Maybe some sub-categories would work better as categories/cards or vice versa, dunno.
I'm also starting to think about the main menu. Do you think it should be changed? I put this in one of the wireframes as an option:
These are my thoughts on "About" vs the "Learn More" button (next to green Getting Started button):
Here is where we find ourselves at the challenge I found last year. Learn more about what? About What?
In the past I2P the network and how it works was conflated with I2P the software, so it is something to consider with naming things. So clearly setting paths to software capabilities and mechanical things / or paths too soft intro to devs and research oriented content.
That's a really good point. The Getting Started button is obviously for software. The Resources page encompasses both software and network. I intended the Learn More button to be about the software so if someone wasn't ready to get started and download, they would read an overview, something less detailed than what will be on the Resources page. That button doesn't have to be there, it could be under the cards we plan to build for the landing page.
The About does feel vague right now, especially with Resources there. I need to test users on what they think about the Resources page, what they expect from it and if it'd be somewhere they'd click on to learn more about certain topics.
I guess when we start thinking about the design of the Landing page specifically we will address those paths.
Maybe the Learn More button needs to go to a new page that combines the intro to I2P network ( reworked) and the page about what is included in the software?
Do you mean the Learn More button should be placed on a new page or that when you click on it, it directs you to a new page about network/software? It seems like you mean the latter, but want to double check!

it should direct to a new page , yes. Something that works out the demonstrating value/ showing enough of how it works idea
For glossary, I think that it needs to be expanded to include more software specific terms:
At the moment it has a Cryptography specific glossary
We need to include Network terms as well, specifically related to the sidebar info: -peers ( active, fast, integrated, known) -reseed -tunnels ( client, participating, exploratory, local)
Still figuring out the copy and IA for some of the pages under Support.
I created 3 of the pages under Troubleshooting (Software Help, Configuration Help, Internet Access and Performance Help). I broke down the current FAQ page (https://geti2p.net/en/faq#browserproxy) into sections for the Troubleshooting category. Do we need the Reseeds, Privacy-Safety (this might go under the Privacy & Safety Category instead of. Troubleshooting)?
I think we can remove the advanced connections.
A few differences:
Introduction What is I2P Privacy and Safety Comparisons Glossary/ Terminology ( would include definitions of peer-to-peer, reseeds, and other terms a person will want to know about.
Using I2P Software Getting Started Applications ( what is included) Services Performance Unistall Advanced connections ( NAT / Firewall, ports info, GPG?)
Troubleshooting Reseeds( connection issues)

Is the "Getting Started" page going to be the same thing as the 1-2-3 steps how to download/getting started page? Or is it more about how to use I2P once you've already downloaded it?
Is the "Licenses" page removed all together?
Just realized that the "how to use I2P" category was changed to "I2P software" so the Getting Started page we already have makes more sense! It is still that page you have in mind, right?
I swapped the colors to see how it looks.
I think I'm leaning toward the original style. The blue feels a little too intense and top-heavy. Your thoughts?
Alternatively, we could try something like this with icons and bigger cards. (https://support.workiva.com/hc/en-us)
Maybe it's a good idea to have a different look from Docs, so it doesn't get confusing. But also could be nice to have consistency.

yes - I wanted to make it specific =)

Getting Started would be related to the software.

I actually do not mind the dark on top , but i will always go with what is most readable. I love the other example TBH - it is really easy to read because of the negative space.
as far as consistency - if we did this , we could use the other light/ dark option but just round the corners of the boxes for docs?
A sampling of what the Support page could like in the Workiva-style (would turn the other icons in the same blue to match)
I REALLY like this
I can keep working on this style. A few things that I'm questioning is: in this style we lose the batch names so "Overview" and "Getting Involved" are removed. The Getting Involved feels almost like a call to action and makes it more obvious how one might contribute. So I wonder if it's a big loss or not when we have this style.
I also want to think more about the page being called "Support." Maybe calling this page "Getting Started" or back to "Resources". Especially for developers, will they know to go to the Support page for more information? I think there should be a link on the Tech Docs that directs to the non-tech Developer Resources page. But maybe there should be another page called "Getting Involved" or "Contribute" so the Developer Resources page doesn't get lost?
But maybe none of the above and this is ok!
I think we need to see them side by side.
As for devs: maybe we move the dev and contribute stuff to its own menu? Not sure there.
Hmm let's chat more about this and bounce ideas on Monday!
Pulled some icons from the router console to match. Made the other icons more solid.
New issue to replace issue Shoalsteed/UX#21 since we are doing away with FAQ and replacing it with Resources
