For example, showing the name of the group, how many vehicles are in that group, and the standard icons showing overall group alerts. Clicking on a group name would then show the standard group listing.
That's a nice idea.
With a large number of vessels, the Kerbalism toolbar starts getting really crowded. The current Filter and Filter By Group functions work, however are a little tedious to manage. Once assigned a group name, the user has to remember the name and spelling of the group for the filter to work. If you forget the name or misspell, there is no way short of clicking on each individual spacecraft to find out why the filter isn't working.
My thought was to have a more elegant group filter GUI. Perhaps an additional GUI menu to define and manage filters. Individual spacecraft would then be select a defined group name rather than having to type it in manually.
