I am having the same issue. Epic 4g touch, stock rom, stock kernel (rooted), v.
2.0.7

Same problem here, phone is only broadcasting Adhoc and not Infrastructure AP,
unable to connect to hotspot using HP Touchpad. Using 3.1 beta 6. A fix would
be greatly appreciated thank you!

I'm also having a problem where this app is disabling my bluetooth radio.

Original comment by ScottCun...@gmail.com on 3 Oct 2011 at 9:50

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Well. The app disables bluetooth because wifi and bt interfere (when loading
the wifi-kernel module manually) on some devices.

Original comment by harald....@gmail.com on 3 Oct 2011 at 9:54

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
This is the first time over 6 devices this has happened. Are you saying this
app will never work on the epci 4gt without disabling bluetooth?

Original comment by ScottCun...@gmail.com on 3 Oct 2011 at 10:03

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
No. The app disables bluetooth by default on tethering-start. I will make this
optional ... in an upcoming release.

Thanks, is this unique to the Samsung GS24GT? I have never had this happen on
the HTC series, Hero, EVO 3G or 4G.

Did Samsung change thewpa_supplicant to support the bcm4330 and break?

It seems that this is an issue which just Samsung. I have been looking for a
fix for weeks now. I rooted mine using Zeo method but was shocked to find I
could only tether in adhoc mode..

Original comment by 1osaorob...@gmail.com on 10 Oct 2011 at 3:04

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Infastructure/WPA mode not available on my Epic Touch 4G, also. The bluetooth
toggling is a separate issue, and shouldn't be conflated with the OP issue.
adhoc doesn't work for me because I need to use this to tether with my
touchpad. Would love an infrastructure mode!

Same problem here. Cannot start in infrastructure mode, getting "Wireless
tether has started with errors".

Thank you for your work on this.

Same issue here. Clockwork Mod Rom and ACS Rooted Kernal. Everything on the
phone works except for the fact that I cannot get infrastructure mode to tether
another Android device.

I fixed my issue by flashing into Starburst Rom V1.9.8r. It has a Sprint
Hotspot that you could run it on infracture mode. But, only with 3G speed. It's
better than nothing right?? My HP Touch can see my Epic now.

The touch has a newer broadcom-chipset built-in which is currently not support
(by our app).

I can not get either of my PS3s to see the ssid in either infra. or adhoc
modes. Both laptops can see and connect just fine. I used an earlier wifi
version with my evo 4g with no trouble.

I used qbkings updated root method on youtube on my epic touch.

@Harald is there anything that is needed by this project to support the new
broadcom chipset? Is the open sourcing of the driver needed or reverse
engineering? As you can tell there are many users of this device that would
love to see infrastructure mode tethering.

Thanks

Also struggling to find something to tether with... this was my go-to app with
my Hero CMDA.
Barnacle was the only other app mentioned I thought would work, but market
won't display it on the phone, and market.android.com says it is incompatible
with my phone.
Where can we donate to wireless tether and help get this resolved?

To clarify, I've rooted using 2.6.35.8-LoStKernel per QBKing77's Youtube
instructions, but I think the ROM is still the stock Sprint build. I have
upgraded the modem to EK02. Phone connected, and I could ping or FTP with
command prompt (DNS worked), but I can't get any http requests to go through
the browser. Weird.

Just checking in, this seems to be a well documented problem, I just did an OTA
update, and then rooted with the "root only" mod, that just basically installs
the SU app, and leaves your whole system stock.

DETAILS:
Phone: Samsung S2 Epic 4G Touch (Sprint)
Model #: SPH-D710
Android Ver: 2.3.6
Baseband: EK02
Kernel ver: 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EK02-CL704398

Software: 3.1 beta 7

I can wifi tether in ad-hoc mode, which is fine for my laptop.
But I can't connected another Android device. (my Tab 10.1)
I was able to connect to it with an iphone, so presumably ipads should work
too.
Changing almost anything from auto causes errors. I can change the channel and
thats about it. If I try changing encryption, or to infrastructure, etc... I
get errors.

Here is what i did, went back to stock everything, downloaded stock deodexed no
ciq rom and flashed. Next, downloaded star burst 1.9.8r and flashed as they
have a sprint hot spot hack that works flawlessly, and i might add, works in
infrastructure mode. Star burst works great haven't had a problem yet, and
battery life is much better to. Just make sure you research well and follow
all directions!

I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 to root
my phone.

The basic "one step root" method. I'd rather a stock rom for many reasons.

We just need a version 3.x that works with an Epic 4G Touch specific profile!

I just thought I'd add my data, as I seem to be on a newer android version,
2.3.6 (instead of 2.3.4) and that it works on my version all except changes to
WPA & Infrastructure. (basic/generic Adhoc mode only works)

Do people not read the responses from Harald, who is the owner of this project?

There are two very key posts in the thread...

Comment 24: There is a new chipset that is not support yet by the app

Comment 45: They don't have a device to test with

If you don't have a device to donate for the Devs to test/work with or don't
have knowledge on the new chipset, then posting your device info and how you
rooted it is pretty pointless.

Only Ad-Hoc works, some PCs/mobile devices connect fine, others don't.
