Please check:
1) You need a netfilter-enabled kernel installed. Check with "Show log" (press
"menu"
first) if you see an error message.
2) If you enable access control every client which connects needs permission for
getting internet access. (Disable it for the first tests.)

I tried the pre_6 one that just came out and the pre_5 distro but I still can
only
see the local intranet, nothing outside local is accessable.
The only error I get on the log with these distros is "Enabling NAT Rules..."
FAILED!

You don't have a kernel installed which supports netfilter/iptables.
Check this here:

i-tether-wireless-tether-root-users.html
Hope it helps.

Just about everything on that page is way over my head, I have to do things in
DOS,
install a recovery tool, somthing "sholes.info" etc etc.
There should be an easier way to do this.

"sholes.info cannot be found"
I hope the wifi tether people can find a way around this.

The sholes.info team has changed to droidmod.org.
Download their app on the market. It will root and install
their latest rom, which has the correct kernel.

It works! Thanks again SadMedic
I installed the droidmod.org version of root and my phone auto overclocked to
800mhz,
the rotating feature works in the home screen, etc!
I had to re-do home screen shortcuts but other than that I've noticed a good
increase
of my phone's abilities!

Having this same issue with my Evo. Checked my logs and everything was all
green.
My questions are:
Since my logs have no errors, does this mean I have the correct kernel
installed?
If I need to install a new kernel, will the steps at
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/10219-tether-capability-android-wif
i-tether-wireless-tether-root-users.html
Work on my EVO ?
