We've all been there.. you want to PR within your fork, but Github defaults to PR'ing against the upstream. It's hard to catch!

FWIW you can detach a fork .. afterwards, there's no default upstream, so it won't do that. Separately, I often rename my detached fork repo slightly, which helps some.
