Keeping aoe2calendar up-to-date / Automation & API usage #30

Hey, I remember aoe2calendar being a reliable source for dates regarding tournament- and showmatches. I visited the website lately and it doesn't seem to be updated since April 2020. Via siegeengineers discord I was getting to know that there is a spreadsheet running in the background that fills the page.

With adoption to Liquipedia in the last months I think it could be reasonable to change that and use the Liquipedia API to pull calendar data: https://liquipedia.net/ageofempires/api.php

Maybe it could be reasonable to get data from AoEzone as well. As I understand that the spreadsheet means more manual work for everyone that might be doing really much stuff in the background already.

But I really like the UI of aoe2calendar, because it's less cluttered than aoezone and liquipedia. What's your opinion on that?

Hi @simonsan , that's great, it would be great to integrate those. I agree re: AoCZone/AoEZone UI, that's the main reason I made the site in the first place, although Liquipedia adoption is totally new, so I don't know how well the calendar there works.

Unfortunately I don't have any time for AoE2 projects these days, so I can't make any upgrades, but I am happy to share the domain and deployment with anyone if they would like to upgrade it.

At least the calendar on AoEzone can export the data as vsc/ics, so that could be a good start before querying the Liquipedia API: 2020-12-14 21_06_17-Week 51 2020 _ AoEZone - The international Age Of Empires community – Mozilla Fi-Screenshot

Would you be in favour of transferring the repository to the Siegeengineers Organisation, so it can be taken care of there?

coffenbacher commented 3 years ago

Sure, I'd be happy to transfer the repo to SiegeEngineers @simonsan . I actually just tried and I can't because of permissions, but if you know of a way let me know. I'm also happy to transfer the domain if anyone wants to use it.

To transfer you would need to join the SiegeEngineers org and have the permission to create repositories there. Are you in SE discord?

@coffenbacher You should have gotten an invite to the organisation. Can you check? Then you should be able to transfer the repository. ;-)

Got it, thank you! Successfully transferred. Lmk if you want me to do anything with the domain at some point.
