Let’s aim for user-friendliness here. A 20-30 series default makes sense, with a “show all” option for up to a few hundred series (we’ll fine-tune this to avoid UI lag). This lets users spot trends without getting bogged down in specifics. For queries returning more series than we can handle, we’ll prompt users to narrow their search. In view mode, we’ll stick to our default of 20 series but allow searching within all series.

For sparse data (less than 1/4th or 1/5th of expected points visible), we should suggest switching to a “Table” view.

Nice to have: change the default based on screen size.
