Let's look at some fonts
early in the project I tried a recreation of the Splatoon/Splatfest font but it was not easily readable in 3D print. Granted, I was under-extruding in this pic ..... buuut it's too stylized and difficult to read. Also I cannot use this commercially
nice visibility, decent printability. I want something a little more playful.
great. Softer design than Orbitron. I hope it's as printable. It contrasts from the image just enough.
ok, readable, feels like a standard sans-serif font. It's too standard though, feels like I just used the default font. It is nearly identical to the default OpenSCAD font and many other sans-serif
another standard sans-serif but thicker
not bad. I like the reduced detail on the "a" and "p"
One of my favorite. Variable weight. Mixing weight works nicely to emphasize the name
medium weight:
bold weight and medium weight
I like the shape of the "4" and "a", looks readable. I don't care for the hand-drawn aspect of it
Baloo 2 on a 3D print
The dude logo came out excellent. The text came out decent. "Cuttlephone" is good at big scale. The small scale text is too small. "4" and "a" especially are not readable; the little blob islands don't look good.
Ironing was a swing and a miss. It looks good in some areas but not others. I don't like the inconsistent texture. If I can make this more consistent I'll start using it.
Getting sidetracked ... These are not suitable for selling mainstream but they are FUN. Some look like they'll be legible in a 3D print. I'll make some test prints with these fonts and try them out.
looks printable but I don't care for the style
gorgeous! I can learn the letters. It's rather thin but I think it'll show in a 3D print
There are few fine detail islands
very nice, bolder design, but more fine details islands that may not print
this looks not printable, too many detail islands. This font doesn't have any extras characters like "." or "-". I'd have to make them.
The Splatfest art design clashes with the current digital text. Can we get a softer sans-serif font? Fonts must be licensed with a permissive open source license or free-use license. OFL is good.
display font:
A display typeface is a typeface that is intended for use at large sizes for headings, rather than for extended passages of body text.
Some are nice, some are too flashy.
relief font:
Relief SingleLine is a versatile sans serif “single-line” font with open paths oriented towards CNC (Computer Numerical Control) and fab labs environments.
Not sure if needed. This is additive manufacturing, I'm not cutting a line. I need to be able to control the line width in Cuttlephone for this to work. Or pre-bolden the text.
