Remove lingering bits of Python 2 support #43

Fixes #29.

This simplifies the code a little and removes remaining uses of old dependencies, particularly in the metadata editor. Also removes signature-related code that is no longer used.

@jonc125 I've tried out the editor and it looks fine as far as I can tell, but I'd never used it before. I've asked for a review in case you can check quickly, but it's not necessary (we'll be revisiting it later anyway).
