That sounds fine. Why not get a DOI from GitHub?

@SimonGoring you mean via Zenodo? I think you can set that up but you only want to generate the DOI once we finalise the code and tag the repo with a release.
Yep, understood. Just wanted to know why doing it on figshare was better/easier than on GitHub.
Gavin is right. This way you can have the reserved doi in the paper right now and make it public/active after paper acceptance.
