The use of historical data can be supported by the specification in two ways,
either by supplying the actual numbers as parameters using ENUM, i.e. a
sequence of processing times for a task. As noted above, a more common way is
to use historical to generate a distribution. Curve fitting software can be
used to suggest the appropriate distribution or alternatively a ‘user
distribution’ constructed from the data depending on which approach is most
valid for the circumstances.
