Simple SMS shows temporary messages from SMS Backup & Restore #516

Hi,

I was originally going to make this issue with the SMS Backup & Restore app’s developer, but Simple SMS Messenger seems to be the only SMS app I’ve tested that’s been affected by this.

I used SMS Backup & Restore to back up text messages from my old phone. After importing this backup to my new phone, everything seemed to work fine. I currently use QKSMS, and everything worked fine there. I also tested the stock AOSP messaging app and even Google Messages. All of them displayed my messages correctly.

However, when using Simple SMS Messenger, I see the following message under most of my group MMS messages: “SMSBackupRestore Temp Message, Please Delete.” This message doesn’t appear underneath any regular SMS conversations. The date associated with all of these messages matches the time at which I restored my backup from SMS Backup & Restore. It seems like other SMS apps simply ignore these messages, but Simple SMS Messenger doesn’t seem to. I’ve attached a screenshot showing this behavior below:

Thank you in advance for your help!

do you have those messages in some file? Can you send a sample file so that we could reproduce it?

I have them in an XML backup of my text messages made through SMS Backup & Restore, but given that it's my entire text message history, it's multiple gigabytes, and there are several personal conversations in there that I'd prefer to keep private. However, I still have my old phone with the texts on it, so I'll try to make a separate backup with only the problematic conversations included. I most likely won't have time to do that until the weekend, though. In the meantime, can you please share a location where I can send the files to you privately?

sure, you can manually open the .xml after exporting too with any text editor, and just edit out whatever you want. You can send it to hello@simplemobiletools.com, only I have access there.
